India’s biggest digital conclave “EEMA Digital Day” was organized by the event & entertainment management association on 24th November 2020, on a virtual event platform, Dreamcast. The event has thrown a light on how COVID-19 has been the catalyst for the transformation of live physical events. EEMA D’Day discussed how work from home scenarios and transformations of live physical events into a visually rich digital environment has become the new normal. The discussions in the event went around immersive virtual event experiences and unlocking the upcoming future. The insights of the virtual & hybrid world and the solutions offered by the industries greatest were being discussed in the event.

EEMA D’Day virtual conference was a one-day event and had many engaging sessions. The discussions held during the virtual conference surrounds the solutions offered by the immersive virtual event technology. The event showcased how advanced technology and brilliant innovative and integrated ideas helps brands and businesses in upscaling their investments for digital events.

The event holds an extensive portfolio of knowledgeable speakers and brilliant topics. Discussions surrounding the topics to bridge the gap between live physical events and virtual events have been the highlights of EEMA D-Day.

EMMA D-Day began with a welcome note for attendees and was addressed by Deepak Pawar, Secretary, EEMA, Roshan Abbas, President, EEMA and Partha Sinha, President, Response, (BCCL). The president of the EMA association, Roshan Abbas welcomed the virtual attendees who navigated their way through the event. He gave a brief insight into what a day-long virtual conference holds for all the attendees.

Roshan Abbas says “ EMA D-Day is the first of its kind of digital day that brings the best in the marketing, best in content, best in experiential and best in events together. He even adds to his statement during EMA D-Day that “ It is no secret that up to 30% incremental revenue will be possible for all of us in the event business once physical events come back.”

1. Keynote Fireside — Beyond 20/20: The Future

Rajan Anandan, The managing director of Sequoia Capital addressed the session: Keynote Fireside — Beyond 20/20: The Future.

In this engaging session, Anandan talked about how many changes came into existence in consumers’ lives and businesses. How the idea of working from home, online learning, and so on came to reality for 500 million people. He threw light on how the digital medium has accelerated during these challenging times of pandemic. He shared his views on how it has affected consumer behavior and businesses. How quickly people have adapted to the digital medium and even post COVID they are likely to follow the same. Go virtual has become a trend and the new normal.

He even mentioned how online events and advanced technology have elevated the brand visibility, awareness, and experience over time. Big brands are offering incredible experiences for consumers. While unlocking the future he mentioned it will lead to bigger live & physical aswell as virtual events in the near future.

During the session, Anandan addressed virtual events are much more scalable, measurable, and impactful for brands compared to traditional events. It enables them to reach more and more people and measure the success of the event.

Rajan Anandan said “ As a brand, the ability to engage consumers will be dramatically high where they can experience everything virtually, which is why I feel when the offline is back, it will be bigger than before. Brands will try to leverage offline and online together as a new kind of experience for consumers. Embracing change, understanding the real power of virtual reality, and finally being creative by combining it with the best of technology is what the companies should do.”

The session was successful and received a phenomenal response. He clearly shared his viewpoints and said one should keep learning constantly to move ahead with the changing times.

2. Power Of Physical Event Experiences And Amplified Reach Of Virtual Events

In various other engaging sessions during EEMA D-Day, thoughtful discussions took place. Panelists have talked about complex aspects of virtual event venues and space. The sessions hold an extensive portfolio of speakers starting from Microsoft India, CMO, Hitu Chawla, Arjoon Bose from Haagen Dazs, MD & CEO of Futurebrands, Santosh Desai, Rahul Dutta, Head of Marketing, HP India, Evelyn Mora, Founder of the Helsinki Fashion Week, Gaurav Gupta, CCO of MG Motor India, Ruchira Jaitly, CMO India at HMD Global; Santosh Iyer, CMO Daimler, Shreyas Srinivasan, Founder & CEO, Paytm Insider and many other speakers. The discussions held between the panelists had thrown the limelight on the need for live physical experiences and the need for virtual event reach. Adding more to the list of speakers, the most renowned faces from the sports world and entertainment industry were also part of EEMA D-Day. Singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan, Actor Boman Irani, former cricketer Kapil Dev and actor-comedian Vir Das were the highlights of the event.

EEMA, President, Roshan Abbas clearly gave his viewpoint on the ongoing dynamics. He talked about the need to find a hybrid amalgamation where in-person and virtual events come in the same frame. He clearly mentioned that today clients ask for more innovative solutions to boost the business revenues by expanding event reach and delivering real-life experiences to attendees.

EEMA D-Day is the perfect space to showcase digital work done by multiple agencies of EEMA during the global pandemic. It has been a perfect platform to have discussions on unlocking what the future holds.

Deepak Pawar the Secretary of EEMA said “ EEMA D-Day is here to influence and inspire people’s minds and perceptions towards exploring endless possibilities in the digital world. Virtual events are not a substitute for on-ground events, but are here to stay for good and do good to the experiential industry while connecting brands to their TG”.

3. Tech V/S Content. How One Can Support The Other

The session included an incredible list of panelists. They talked about technology and content and how both can support each other.

One of the panelists Vishal Gondal talked about “How millions of events are being organized parallelly and the people have the option to watch the recordings”. He threw light on what you need to do so the audience will pay money to watch your event. During the ongoing session, he further added that the gaming industry cracked it a lot earlier. He talked about the “freemium model where the entire content is free” and where organizations can monetize engagements. He talked about hype casual games, mid-core games, and hardcore or sole based games during the session.

“The content is an important part of an event but so is the technology to enhance it and take it to the next level,” said Nanni Singh one of the panelists during the session.

Actively immersing people with the content is the key to success and generate better revenues. Technology is always a step ahead and we have met engagements.

The EEMA D-Day the virtual event hosted on Dreamcast’s platform received a phenomenal response from attendees thus making the event successful.

An incredible boost in digital attendee engagement has been witnessed. The event’s digital engagement crossed a line of 14000+ views and site clicks.
